10:43 am - Yuletide roundup

Yuletide!

For the second year in a row, I wrote fic for an obscure-ish indie film. This time it was The Station Agent. The story is Hooking Up and was written for [info]jesshelga's request for Joe/Olivia.

The story I received made me very happy. It also made me snortlaugh when I got completely blindsided by the joke the whole thing is built around. It takes a while for it to sink in, but once it does, well, it's pretty priceless. It's Pushing Daisies, Reindeer Mountain, Ned/Chuck. The author is [info]vandonovan. Thanks again!

Okay, so that whole posting more often thing hasn't worked out so great. But I have, at least, kept up on my reading.

[info]yuletide is gearing up again, and I will be participating as always. If you love small/obscure fandoms, whether you're a slash, het, or gen writer/reader (or all three!), [info]yuletide is the place to go. The archive is full of delightful surprises, and the challenge adds a lot of fun to the holiday season.

I'm going to have a hard time deciding what to request this year, though. So many of my past requests have been filled so perfectly that I don't need to ask for them again. There's my perennial request for First Wave, of course, but beyond that and Middleman, I'm not sure what I want to request. Deciding what to offer to write is so much easier. I still have my offer list from last year, and I'll probably (mostly) repeat that.

Yay, yuletide!

12:40 am - out of retirement?

So life's been... busy. For a while now. And my fannish enthusiasm had dwindled at around the same time, and the combination of those two things has meant that I haven't really been around fandom much since, well, late summer 2006. (Except for Yuletide, of course. Even if I go away again, I'll always come back for yuletide.) Anyway, I think I may be back. There are a few reasons for this.

1. I am madly, deeply, head-over-heels in love with The Middleman.

2. Somehow, after a decades-long hiatus, I am reading superhero comics again.*

3. I am back on the academic calendar, and it is summer.

4. See #1.

5. Repeat #4.

I make no promises, but for now, at least, I'm tentatively announcing that I'm probably coming out of my fannish semi-retirement. I think that should be enough disclaimers. :-) I'll probably clean up my f-list a bit, drop some communities, drop some journals that aren't in use or that I just don't have fandoms/other connections in common with any more, basically just get things to a manageable size on ye olde f-list. If I drop you and you don't want to be dropped, leave a comment. Also, I've popped in from time to time, but never caught up 100% during my hiatus, so if we haven't kept up through other channels, it's possible I have missed something huge in your life. I hope y'all will cut me some slack on that.

*This is not connected (so far) to item 1, well, other than I squee'd a lot when they name-checked Astro City in the first episode. The re-emergence of comics in my life has been a slow but steady process that predates MM. I have chosen to blame my boyfriend for it, and even though it's not really his fault** he nobly takes the blame.

**Astro City was totally his fault, Fables was totally mine (and therefore so was Jack of Fables, although that came later), Wonder Woman was kind of both of our faults, and having fallen headfirst down the slippery slope I now find myself reading Showcase collections of old DC stuff and reminiscing about the Justice League and Wonder Woman plotlines I remember from the late 70s/early 80s, and we're both reading the weekly DC series Trinity. Is there some law that you always return to your first fandom, sooner or later? Because that's totally what's happened to me here.

02:43 pm - yuletide

There are not enough words to describe how much I adore my [info]yuletide story, Much Ado About Pindar. It is a story set in the universe of Kage Baker's Company novels, and it is everything I hoped for and more. It was written by [info]frostfire_17.

I wrote Telling Tales, which is Smoke Signals fic, Thomas/Victor, PG-rated, for [info]marginalia.

07:55 pm - Yuletide

For my author: I am going to be out of town over Christmas, and I do not know what, if any, internet access I will have. It's possible I won't get to my story right away. Worst case, I won't get to read my story until January 1. I promise you, I will comment as soon as I've read it.

As for me, my [info]yuletide story is about a paragraph from done, I think. It's been fun, as usual.

08:34 pm - resurfacing for yuletide

I'm still here, I've just been mostly non-fannish (and really busy) for a long while. But I am back for [info]yuletide. If you're into rare fandoms, and you haven't heard of Yuletide, head over to the community and check it out. I've done it every year, and it's always lots of fun.

10:33 pm - yuletide revealed

Once again, I had a wonderful time doing the [info]yuletide challenge. I've participated all four years, and I plan to do it again next year. The work the mods do to keep it running smoothly (especially as it grows--over 800 people this year!) is amazing.

My lovely gift was Demons, Wire in the Blood fic written by [info]ndannais.

I wrote Bad Fish, which is gen Wonderfalls fic. (Well, it contains the het relationships from the show, but doesn't focus on them. So I say gen. YMMV.) Recipient was [info]slippery_fish.

And I am still way behind on my friendslist. Sorry to be so absent the last few months.

Dear Santa,

Whether you're a Yuletide veteran or one of the many first-timers, thanks for signing up for Yuletide! It's such a fun challenge. Here are some notes on my requests. Read more... )

05:12 pm

I have been rather busy and am something like a month behind on my flist (I do plan to catch up soonish by visiting journals individually). But I just had to pop up for a moment to say how ridiculously excited I am about the fact that it's [info]yuletide time again. I haven't done any writing all year, but I've had such a good time with Yuletide in the past that I'm coming out of my semi-retirement just for that. Yay, Yuletide!

04:26 pm - fall TV

It looks more and more like [info]yuletide will be my only fannish output in 2006. Still here, still trying to catch up on LJ a couple of times a week.

Somehow, I'm going to try to find time to watch a lot of television (fall TV viewing plans) )

Jun. 1st, 2006

09:08 pm - It may be almost summer, but...

I'm still mostly in a state of fannish hibernation. Once the Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang dvd comes out (just about two weeks now!) I will try to finish the Harry/Perry story I started writing after I first saw the film, but when/if/whether I'll get to anything else is up in the air at this point.

I'm still reading my flist, and commenting when I can.

12:12 am - GIP (thank you, Aithine!)

(Although I'd happily vote for Jed Bartlett, too.)

Yay, 24 is back!

There still needs to be a story in which Jack Bristow and Jack Bauer join forces and rule the world. Or at least where they meet and kick some ass together.

05:34 pm - the year in fic

My plan for 2005 was to do fewer challenges and focus on getting some WIPs cleared out of my pile. I did finish a few, but not as many as I'd have hoped. Seven stories (including [info]yuletide, not including the various "one-sentence" pieces) completed and posted in 2005. Three were for challenges, the same three were entirely new in 2005, and the other four were WIPs at the start of the year (leaving thirtyish in the unfinished pile because I started just about as many new ones as I finished). We'll see how many of those make an appearance in 2006.

December:
Score is Alias AU gen fic centered on Marshall, the first of the 8 Things (that should've been posted by now but haven't been because I am lame).

Courting was written for the [info]yuletide challenge. It's Big Eden, which was a new fandom for me, Pike/Henry (slash), set post-film.

November:
...And the Peanut M&M was written for the Snackfood Is Love challenge. It's Ocean's 11/12, which was another new fandom for me, and it's Danny/Rusty (slash).

September:
Class Clowns was written for the Worst Case Scenario Challenge. It's Invisible Man, Darien/Bobby (slash).

August:
I did the one-sentence (ish) story meme for requests in several fandoms. The resulting sentences/snippets (in comments) are het, gen, and slash, depending. Fandoms included are: Twin Peaks, Keen Eddie, First Wave, Invisible Man, The Way of the Gun, Fastlane/Karen Sisco, and Stargate: Atlantis.

May:
Descrente Deste Mundo is Crossing Jordan (yes, another new fandom), Garret/Peter (slash).

March:
9/10ths is a First Wave story, Cade/Eddie slash. While it's not included in my count of challenge stories above because it was started before and finished after the IHS challenge, it was crossposted to the [info]in_his_shoes community for bodyswap stories.

February:
After-Party is a Zoolander (really, I'm such a sucker for new fandoms) story co-written with [info]ebonlock. It's Derek/Hansel slash, but mostly it's just silly.

01:59 am - yuletide wrap-up

I haven't gotten to most of what I want to read, as usual, but I have a folder of bookmarked stories I'm planning to read later. Thanks to [info]elynross and the other challenge admins for once again herding the cats involved in this huge challenge, which always produces piles of great fic to read.

The marvelous Odyssey 5 story written for my request, How to Save the World, was written by [info]ebstarr4. Thanks again!

I wrote Courting, which is a Big Eden story. (Henry/Pike, R, set post-film) for [info]fryadvocate's request. Huge thanks go to my betas, [info]lupin_fanatic and [info]aithine.

And I had the pleasure of being one of [info]aithine's betas for Stranger Than, which is Galaxy Quest gen fic.

07:34 pm - bandwagon

All the other kids are doing it, so... if you can guess which [info]yuletide story is mine before the reveal, I'll write you a snippet. Hints: It's slash, and it's not a fandom I've written in before. I may not have even mentioned the fandom, actually, and I'm such a multi- and/or small-fandom person that most of you probably haven't read enough (or any) of my stuff to recognize it based on style, so this one's a long shot. The tiny handful of people who know which story is mine are of course not eligible.

Dec. 25th, 2005

06:07 pm - Yuletide

I haven't had a chance to read anything other than the story written for me yet, but I wanted to take a minute to say how happy I am to have received it. It's Odyssey 5 fic, and it's just what I was hoping for. How To Save the World
